Sit and Sew

I had a call fromNancy Stanley this afternoon in regard to our Sit and Sew that is held at the Chapel Lane church on the third Tuesday from 10 to 3:00.  Nancy had announced at our meeting this past Tuesday evening that we were unable to get the room on this coming Tuesday and would therefore be having our meeting on the fourth Tuesday this month.  That was an error and Sit and Sew will be held next Tuesday, September 20th.  Spread the word that it will be the normal day and not the following week.

I took lots of pictures at Show and Tell but have not put them on my computer yet - will try and get a slide show up this weekend.  I have taken pictures since the blog was put up and am wondering if anyone else would like to do that, put them on a disc and give them to me to be put up for the other guild members to see.  This is something I just did on my own but would welcome someone else snapping some shots of the lovely things we all make.  Leave a comment if you might consider it.  Thanks much!

Jewels and Fun Old Hag

Amish Quilts at the Flint Institute of Art

The Flint Institute of Arts will open the exhibition Amish Quilts to the public on September 10. The exhibit will feature Amish quilts dating from the mid-nineteenth to mid-twentieth century from the private collection of Marsha and Tom French and illustrate the history of Amish quilt making and the importance of this ongoing tradition. Examples from Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana demonstrate noteworthy distinctions between regions and reflect the creative choices in color, pattern and styles passed down through generations of Amish women within the framework of the structured society in which they live.
The Amish Quilt exhibition will continue at the Flint Institute of Arts through November 13. Information and schedules for related programs including: lectures, teacher workshops, films and children’s activities will be posted on the FIA website www.flintarts.org. or call 810-234-1695. The FIA is located just two blocks off I-475 in the Cultural Center Park between the University of Michigan-Flint and Mott Community College. Museum hours are Mon–Wed and Fri 12p–5p; Thu 12p–9p; Sat 10a–5p and Sun 1p–5p. There is a charge for non-members to the exhibit. Saturdays are Target Free.

Aren't These Great?

Earlier this year, I made a cute schlep bag I found on Sentimental Stitches and posted a picture on my blog. Leslie Peterson liked the pattern and has made these six gorgeous bags for all the girls at a family reunion which she and her family won't be able to attend this year. Wouldn't you be thrilled to be gifted with one of these beauties? The fabric she used is perfect and I just love the black handles and probably lining in most of them. Beautiful job, Leslie!  At Sit and Sew yesterday, she was telling about the time she and her daughter, Elle, were having getting the handles to appear in the right place at first; but, as you can see, they certainly figured it out successfully!  Lots of giggles yesterday but not much sewing!  A good time, however, was had by all who were there despite the fact that the ac only works "sort of"!

June 2011 Banquet

Some of the smiling faces at the tea party which was the final get together of the Q2 year until September.

More of the party goers looking well fed and contented.  A nice group attended the event. 

Marlene Perry is our upcoming president for the new year.  She takes over for Nancy Stanley who gave us two nice years.  Thanks, Nancy.  Will list all the new officers later on. 

Music was provided by this group of dulcimer players--a nice touch.

A program on tea was given by this very nice lady from Bay City - I am sorry I didn't get her name.  Sounds like she has a lovely shop.

Can't have a quilt meeting without "Show and Tell" - and here is Marsha showing the prettiest t-shirt quilt that I have ever seen.  It was made for her granddaughter.  Great job, Marsha!

A sampling of the pretty quilts shown by our talented members.  I have also put up as a slideshow photos that were taken at the retreat some of the gals attended last week.  From all reports, it was a happy, fun, busy, productive group of quilters who all enjoyed their getaway.

We're In For Some Fun

Linda McGibbon has asked that a reminder be posted for those who have signed up for the retreat in June---the money ($185.00)  is due at the May meeting which will be Tuesday, May 10th.  There had been concern that not enough had signed up for the retreat to be held.  However, Linda spoke with the director of the retreat and he said not to worry about the minimum number of people.  He will waive it.  So, the retreat is a go!  I am sure you could still sign up for a fun time with your fellow Q2 members.   She sent along a pdf of the brochure for the retreat and I am posting it here.  Since I didn't know quite how to put it in, I scanned it and am posting it that way.  It will look tiny - but if you "click to enlarge" you should be able to read it easily.  If not, let us know and maybe Julie can figure a better way.  She is on vacation so the Old Hag is doing this.

Linda also sent along the program schedule for September 2011 through January 2012.  Looks like we are in for some wonderful programs.  I, for one, am really looking forward to each and every one.   Here is a copy of what she sent along---
