January 2018 Guild Activities

The 2018 Quilt Show is April 27, 28 and 29.

The Show 'n Tell had a variety of items, including quilts to be given as gifts, wall hangings, found acquisitions and projects being finished and then returned to family members.

Wednesday, January 3: Block of the Month: Canyon Twilight,  a pattern by Guild member Linda McGibbon (Lakeview Quilting). For additional details please see the Block of the Month page.

Tuesday, January 9: Guild meeting with Jan Berg-Rezmer who does beautiful pictorial quilts and has been a winner at AQS shows - http://www.icebergdesigns.net/ Meeting details are provided on the About Us page.

Tuesday, January 16: Sit 'n Sew. More information about Sit 'n Sew is provided on the Program page.

November 2017 Meeting and Sit 'n Sew

  • Monday, November 13: Randi Wynee-Parry. She is a certified Zentangles teacher.  She will be giving a lecture on Zentangles and how they can be used in quilting. Please note due to a conflict this month, the meeting is Monday rather than Tuesday. More details are provided on the About Us page. 

  • Tuesday, November 21: Sit 'n Sew. More information about Sit 'n Sew is provided on the Program page. At the October Sit 'n Sew (as shown to the left), several projects for the Guild were worked on - pillowcases and coasters.

The November meeting will be held on Monday, November 13 due to a conflict at the meeting facility. The newsletter will have more information about the speaker and topic and will be posted on the blog also.

Coasters, Nov. meeting, Sit 'n Sew, 2015 ArtPrize

Follow-up notes from October meeting

  • All members are asked to make 4 to 6 coasters that will be gifts for the attendees to our 2018 Quilt Show. This is a link to the pattern.

  • Update October 19: The November meeting will be held on Monday, November 13 due to a conflict at the meeting facility on the 14th. 

  • Tuesday, October 17: Sit 'n Sew will be held at St. Johns Episcopal Church to work on projects, for fellowship, and to have fun with your fellow Q2 members. A donation of $5 to the church is appreciated.

  • Ann Loveless spoke at our October meeting. She and her husband, Steve, won the People's Choice at ArtPrize 2015. It is on display until December 15 at University of Michigan Hospital, UH main lobby, floor 1.

Friday, October 6: Please let Rebekah know by Friday, October 6, if you are interested in participating in this year's Round Robin so she will have enough materials on hand at our meeting on Tuesday, October 10. Details were sent by e-mail on September 21.

Tuesday, October 10: Guild meeting with Ann Loveless, known for landscape quilts, has been 1st prize winner of Artprize in Grand Rapids for two years - http://www.quiltsbyann.com/. Meeting details are provided on the About Us page.

Wednesday, September 6: First meeting of this year's Block of the Month: Canyon Twilight,  a new pattern by Guild member Linda McGibbon (Lakeview Quilting), who is chairing the Block of the Month project.

Tuesday, September 12: Guild meeting. This is the first meeting of the new year. Dues will be collected and must be the exact amount payable by a check or cash. Meeting details are provided on the About Us page. Hear about upcoming programs, activities and a Show 'n Tell. New members are welcomed. Additional details will be provided in the newsletter distributed to members prior to the meeting.

Summer Sit 'n Sew

Come join us once a month at St. Johns Episcopal Church to work on projects, for fellowship, and to have fun with your fellow Q2 members. A donation of $5 to the church is appreciated. This is an opportunity to share ideas, ask questions, have lunch together at a local eatery or bring a lunch. Enjoy!

Block of the Month

The 2016-2017 Block of the Month Celestial Stars is wrapping up.

The 2017-2018 BOM pattern, Canyon Twilight (displayed on the left), will begin in September. More details are on the Block of the Month page.

  • Tuesday, June 13: Spring Banquet, meeting, show & tell and fun. Signups occurred at the May meeting.

2017 Quilt Show

PASS THE TIARA – "Shores of Michigan"

Thank you to everyone who attended our 2017 Pass the Tiara – "Shores of Michigan" show April 28, 29 and 30.

Our thanks to the Heritage Park, the Midland County Historical Society and Gary Skory, Museum Director, and the Max Carey Blacksmith Guild for their continuing support.


With the assistance of family and friends, Cassie hung her quilts.
The show highlighted quilts by Cassie Cuthbert, our featured quilter, and by our members.

Viewers voted on their favorites in the eight categories -- Water Wonderland Challenge, Round Robin, Mystery Quilt,  Large Quilt, Lap/Twin, Miniature/Wall, Miscellaneous, and Two Color.

Everything in the bazaar area is half price (unless marked, but not sure anything is marked!) - magazines, books, quilting frames, cutting tools, magazines, books, patterns and more,

2017 Quilt show is here!

Friday was busy at the bazaar, but there are more bargains! Everyone enjoyed viewing 88 beautiful works by the Guild's members plus works by Cassie Cuthbert, the Show's featured quilter. The silent auction has a variety of items. 

Blacksmiths are demonstrating in the Blacksmith Shop, next door to the Hall. Also, on Saturday the  1874 Bradley Home Museum will be open  from 11am-2pm. (Click on a photo to see a larger item.)

Bee hive of activity - day before quilt show

Thursday was a bee hive of activity. Cassie Cuthbert, the Show's featured quilter, who was featured in an article Midland quilter displays works of love, has her quilts in the entryway and hallway. The bazaar was set up with members items. The take-in area matched members' entries to their descriptive tags. Items were pinned to the panels. Items vary in size and type. Displays were adjusted.  Note the signage for a variety of categories, too. The show runs Friday through Sunday. (Click on a photo to see a larger item.)
