January 2019 Guild activities

  • Wednesday, January 2: Open Sit 'n Sew. 10-2. More information about Sit 'n Sew is provided on the Sit-n-Sew page. Come and enjoy the fellowship and finish any project you’re working on. Bring a lunch or go out to eat at any of the nearby restaurants.
  • Tuesday, January 8: Guild Meeting - Deb Ballard - Trunk show. Deb is from Midland and will amaze us with her quilts. Meeting details are provided on the About Us page.
  • Wednesday, January 16: Open Sit 'n Sew from 10-2. More information about Sit 'n Sew is provided on the Sit-n-Sew page.
  • Monday. February 22 - Thursday, February 25: The Guild's retreat will be held at The Springs in Gladwin, MI. For details please contact Leslie Peterson or Linda McGibbon. Preregistration necessary.

  • Tuesday, December 4: Nancy Brown needs reservations for the dinner meeting if you have not signed up yet.
  • Wednesday, December 5: Open Sit 'n Sew: Work on your group project or come and work on your own project.  Sit-n-Sew and Group Project describes the group project - Vintage Awakening or Vintage Awakening II that is now completed; however, Linda plans to be at the Sit 'n Sew if anyone needs assistance. (Photo on the right is a member's Project at the November Sit 'n Sew.)
  • Tuesday, December 11: Dinner Meeting: 6:00 for social half-hour, 6:30 for dinner. Nancy Brown needs reservations for the dinner meeting by December 4 if you have not signed up yet.

November 2018 Guild Activities

  • Monday. October 29 - Thursday, November 1:  The Midland Quilters Squared Retreat at the Springs: Our fall retreat will be held at The Springs in Gladwin, MI. For details please contact Leslie Peterson or Linda McGibbon or see the attachment to the September newsletter. Preregistration necessary.
  • Wednesday, November 7: Sit-n-Sew and Group Project session. Work on the Group Project or come and work on your own project. The web page describes the group project - Vintage Awakening or Vintage Awakening II.
  • Tuesday, November 13: Guild meeting Karen Duling and a Trunk ShowKaren has received many "semi finalist" awards in AQS and Paducah quilt shows. (Karen Duling Quilts) The meeting will be held at the  Church but in the basement meeting room. Watch for signs in the parking lot. Socialization will begin at 6 pm and the meeting at 7 pm.
  • Wednesday, November 21 - no Sit 'n Sew (due to it being the day before Thanksgiving)

Tuesday, October 9: Guild meeting - Lavender Fleece with Laurie Ball-Gisch. Laurie is from Midland and will bring samples of her Icelandic wool and her spinning wheel. Since many quilters also knit this will be a fun evening. Meeting details are provided on the About Us page.

Guild's pillowcase project


At the September meeting Leslie Peterson, coordinator, provided an update for the Guild's pillowcase charity project that uses the “rollup pillowcase method”.

Beginning in 2009/10 and for 9 consecutive years through 2017/18, members have made 1,109 pillowcases that have been distributed to the following recipients:

June 2018 Meeting




June 12 is the Spring Dinner and quilt show viewer choice winners are invited to bring their items for everyone to see. The meeting will begin 30 minutes earlier with social time beginning at 6 and dinner at 6:30.

Meetings and Sit-n-Sew will resume in September.

When a blog post has multiple photos you would like to view larger, How to view photos provides several tips. For future use, a link will continue to be in the blog's right sidebar.

1. Click or tap on a photo in a post to enlarge it.

2. To continue viewing other photos in the post, click or tap the enlarged photo to view the next photo. Other photos in the same post may appear below the enlarged photo. Click or tap a thumbnail to view another photo. On a keyboard, left/right arrow keys can be used to navigate to the next photo.

3. Click or tap the X in the upper right corner of the image to return to the post.

Thank you to everyone who attended our 2018 quilt show - A Quilter is Never "Board" Remembering Family Game Night, April 27 - April 29. The show highlighted quilts by Kathy Mallory, our featured quilter, and our members. 

Members quilts were displayed in seven categories - Board Game Challenge, Round Robin, Mystery, Large, Lap/Twin, Miniature/Wall and Miscellaneous. Viewers voted on their favorites and the first, second, and third place viewers choices are shown below. Individual photos are displayed further down the page. (click on a photo to enlarge it)
